On Thursday, February 29, the super stylish America’s Cup 2024 — hosted by leading padel tech company redPADEL — will kick off in the scenic, chic beach resort of Club Bacocho in Puerto Escondido, Mexico.
The tournament will consist of 72 players spread across 12 top-tier amateur padel teams from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Chile and promises to showcase the world’s fastest growing sport through two men’s divisions and one women’s division. The winning team will pocket $3,000 with a further $12,000 to be won in raffle prizes.
And not only will America’s Cup 2024 feature high-level padel being played on stunning, palm-tree-surrounded courts just steps from the Pacific Ocean, but it will offer up some of the most unique trophies ever made for a padel tournament — or any kind of tournament, for that matter.
While last year’s inaugural event in Miami featured eight teams, this year’s greatly expanded and enhanced version will include seven teams from the U.S. alone, with the other five teams hailing from places as far flung as Calgary, Oaxaca, and Chile. This year’s teams include:
- Charlotte Pioneers
- Conecta Chile
- Sports Haus (Connecticut)
- Club Bacocho (Oaxaca)
- Bay Padel (San Francisco)
- pAtl Hawks (Atlanta)
- Montreal Blizzard
- The Pad (Toronto)
- San Diego Stingrays
- Sensa Padel (Austin)
- Aforza Chiquitas (Calgary)
- Miami United
Charles Messow, founder of tournament sponsor redPADEL, remarked, “We are incredibly excited to bring the America’s Cup Showdown 2024 to Puerto Escondido. This event will capture the talent, teamwork, and passion that exists within the padel competition in the Americas and we hope hosting it at the exotic beach resort of Club Bacocho will create some amazing life experiences for the players.”
Helwig George, the owner of Club Bacocho and captain of one of the 12 teams competing in this year’s event added, “We’re super excited. It’s a big commitment from our side to host an event like this bringing people here who are traveling all the way from Chile – that’s like two or three flights to get here.
The weather is amazing for people coming from colder places. I think that’s going to be super enjoyable. And I think the most important thing is having a good time playing padel. For our team this is about showing we are great hosts where we can play good padel but also throw a good party.”
The padel party kicks off Thursday. A full schedule of matches and events can be found here.
