After recently announcing the addition of an 8th NYC-based team for the upcoming 2024 season, the Pro Padel League (PPL) further revealed that global music icon and entrepreneur Daddy Yankee will be launching a franchise in Orlando as well.
The new team features a decidedly bold name — the Flowrida Goats — to accompany its bold branding aesthetic and mission of seeking to “bring a fresh perspective to padel and revolutionize the sport with their dynamic playing style.”
“We will give more flow to padel, this team will change the face of the sport,” stated Daddy Yankee, a retired Puerto Rican rapper, singer, songwriter, and actor, who some have dubbed the “King of Reggaeton.”
“We are honored to have a global icon like Daddy Yankee be a part of the Pro Padel League and for his franchise to unveil their team name and branding for the 2024 season,” commented Marcos del Pilar, PPL Commissioner. “We are looking forward to Orlando announcing their players on the Flowrida Goats and the impact the Orlando team will have on the bright future of the PPL and the sport of padel in North America and beyond.”
Goats’ President Luis Carrero added, “I’m thrilled to unveil our new team name – a symbol of unity, passion, and competitive spirit. Let’s embrace this fresh identity and conquer the court together!”
While Daddy Yankee’s foray into the world of padel will certainly bring a lot of excitement and attention, he’s far from the only celebrity who has caught the padel bug recently.
And with the PPL looking to bring the world’s fastest-growing sport to the world’s #1 sports market in a highly fun and entertaining fashion, it probably won’t be long before more big names get into the fray in a major way.
