While celebrity-fueled (and -funded) padel tournaments are certainly nothing new around the U.S. or the world, this weekend’s third edition of the Reserve Cup in Miami looks poised to set the standard all others will be compared against going forward.
In fact, earlier iterations of this star-studded padel exhibition were so successful — and attention-grabbing — that the event’s organizers have decided to expand the concept to a three-part series, saying:
“Reserve Cup represents the pinnacle of padel in the United States, seamlessly blending elite competition and unparalleled luxury. With the proven success of the 2023 and 2024 editions, Reserve Cup is expanding into the prestigious three-event Reserve Cup Series, with events to be hosted in three iconic cities. The world’s top players, divided into two teams led by star captains, will compete for the Reserve Cup Trophy and the highest prize money ever awarded in padel history.”
$1.7 million to be exact.
Leaders of the Pack
Speaking of star captains, the first event in the series — which begins tomorrow afternoon at Reserve’s original Seaplane location in Miami — will be headed up by two heavy hitters from New York, one from the world of professional baseball (Derek Jeter), and one from the world of stand-up comedy (Andrew Schulz).
Of his opposing captain, Schulz recently took to Instagram to say:
“So much respect for what Mr November has done for my Yankees BUT next week he’s dead to me. If you have any interest in Padel this is it at the highest level. Truly the best padel players in the world are in this tournament and for some reason @derekjeter and I get to pick the teams. @reservecupseries is going down in Miami. See you there.”
Of course, part of the reason is that Schulz is now among the ever-growing contingent of celebrities who have fallen in love with padel, and has been spotted on court everywhere from Padel Haus in Brooklyn to Parker Racquet Club outside Denver.
The Main Attraction
While there will no doubt be an untold number of A-list celebrities, current and former pro athletes, and other big names at this weekend’s event, they’ll all be there to see some of the best padel players on the planet battle it out on court.
Among the players ranked in the top 20 in the world that will be competing are:
Of the elite level of talent the Reserve Cup has been able to attract, Reserve founder Wayne Boich remarked:
“Part of our goal at Reserve has always been to showcase padel at the highest level. Following the success of the inaugural event in 2024—and most importantly, the overwhelming excitement from the players—we knew we had to take it further. That’s why we’re expanding the Reserve Cup into a series across three major cities in 2025, and thrilled to be kicking it off with Reserve Cup Miami.”
