After a very Instagram-worthy weekend of padel, palm trees, and pool-side beverages at the America’s Cup in Puerto Escondido, Mexico, Team Conecta Chile ultimately defeated the team representing the San Diego Stingrays by a score of 2-1 (with both of Chile’s men’s teams winning and San Diego’s women’s team prevailing) to take home the trophy.
This was the second installment of the America’s Cup of padel and the first to be played in Mexico, after last year’s inaugural event was played in Miami. In all, 72 total players representing 12 teams competed over the weekend in the unique tournament which is the brainchild of leading padel tech company redPADEL.
While last year’s event featured eight teams, this year’s greatly expanded and enhanced version included seven teams from the U.S. alone, with the other five teams hailing from places as far flung as Calgary, Oaxaca, and Chile. This year’s teams included:
- Charlotte Pioneers
- Conecta Chile
- Sports Haus (Connecticut)
- Club Bacocho (Oaxaca)
- Bay Padel (San Francisco)
- pAtl Hawks (Atlanta)
- Montreal Blizzard
- The Pad (Toronto)
- San Diego Stingrays
- Sensa Padel (Austin)
- Aforza Chiquitas (Calgary)
- Miami United
Heading into the event, redPADEL founder Charles Messow remarked, “We are incredibly excited to bring the America’s Cup Showdown 2024 to Puerto Escondido. This event will capture the talent, teamwork, and passion that exists within the padel competition in the Americas and we hope hosting it at the exotic beach resort of Club Bacocho will create some amazing life experiences for the players.”
From the looks of the photos coming out of the event, it appears that Charles and the redPADEL team’s dreams for the event more than came true at Club Bacocho over the weekend.
