While it’s true that the vast majority of people in the U.S. have yet to even hear of padel, let alone play it, the past few weeks have seen multiple big developments in the U.S. padel world that have helped push it closer to the mainstream, including an in-depth article about the sport’s growing popularity in The New York Times (click the photo below to read the full article).
Other recent major developments that show the promising future of the sport have included:
- The first-ever padel courts opening at a U.S. high school and a U.S. university — thanks in large part to the vision and support of Taktika Padel…
- Ultra Padel Club in Miami announcing it was expanding its facility to 29 courts, making it among the very biggest padel clubs in the entire world…
- Padel more-or-less stealing the show at the first-ever RacquetX conference in Miami Beach…
- U.S. tennis legend Andre Agassi getting on the padel court with David Beckham in Florida (though many on social media and elsewhere mistook it for pickleball)…
- A star-studded pro padel exhibition at the Credit One Charleston Open women’s tennis tournament in Charleston, SC, that included all-time legend Juan Martin Diaz, who was ranked No. 1 in the world for 14 consecutive years…
- The second season of the North-American-based Pro Padel League kicking off in Miami and featuring many of the world’s best and most exciting players…
All in all, it’s been a big couple of weeks for U.S. padel, and with dozens of new clubs and courts around the U.S. slated to open over the rest of the year, this is almost assuredly just the beginning.
